marinabrid Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 hi all, tdi90 on a 97. the small pipe from the top of the air cleaner box has gone !it seems tpo be connected to a small valve with other vacuum pipes on it and a block wire push on connector, the thing has snapped off at the valve end ,whats this valve do ? is it needed to be connected / Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 Mine was off for months and I never noticed any difference when it got put back. It is a blind stag what it does though! Quote
dipsomaniac Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 could be the EVAP. it is there to prevent any unburnt fuel vapours escaping. when ford forgot to re-connect mine it didn't affect the performance but you could hear a sucking (of air) sound. Just noticed you are referring to a tdi - ignore this post as I don't think an EVAP is fitted??? Quote
seatkid Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 I think  it supplies filtered air to the vacuum system (Turbo Control Solenoid - ATM connection)...but I may be wrong. Will have a look tomorrow when I clean the car.... Quote
seatkid Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Yup, I can confirm this pipe supplies filtered air to the ATM connection on the Turbo Control Solenoid. Running with it disconnected will not cause running problems but will potentially allow dirt into the vacuum/turbo control system and into the main air intake albeit in minute quantities, Quote
